Operating Environment

Please see the detailed software compatibility document showing compatibility for specific versions of TaskCentre which is available in the partner area of the website together with the software downloads and release notes with detailed installation instructions.

Server

The following indicates the supported operating systems and the minimum service pack required.

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

The TaskCentre server minimum requirement is:

• Dual Pentium 2GHz Xeon processors

• 1 GB of free physical memory

• 1.5 GB Hard Disk space

• 1280X800 desktop

Installation considerations

• TaskCentre server requires 250mb of free space on the C: drive for the extraction process. This is cleared away on installation completion.

• Plan for a possible reboot of the server. This can occur if Microsoft Jet/DAO is updated during the install.

• Ensure that the regional settings on the server are appropriate. The default locale of the machine must be correct. (I.e. not US English as is often the case with machines outside the USA)

Workflow Agent & Workflow Website

The workflow agent and workflow website are supported on:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

Additionally

• IIS web server must be installed (5.1, 6.0 or 7.0)

• Minimum .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 installed with permissions set to use .NET V2 service extensions.

TaskCentre requires a dedicated website for workflow jobs this demands that the website and hence the workflow agent is installed on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or higher. The workflow agent and TaskCentre server may coexist on the same machine. However resource loading and hence website response times should be considered when assessing high intensity systems. In high intensity scenarios it may prove beneficial to distribute the workflow agent onto another machine. The workflow agent communicates using the IP.

Web Client

The Web Client is supported on:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

Additionally

• IIS web server must be installed (5.1, 6.0 or 7.0)

• Minimum .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 installed with permissions set to use .NET V2 service extensions.

Web Service

The Web service is supported on:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

Additionally

• IIS web server must be installed (5.1, 6.0 or 7.0)

• Minimum .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 installed with permissions set to use .NET V2 service extensions.

Workflow Users

• Supported web browsers are IE versions 6, 7 and 8 and Firefox versions 2 and 3.

Again a server reboot will be required if the web browser has to be upgraded.

SMTP Agent

The SMTP agent is supported on:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4

• Microsoft Windows XP Professional

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server SP1

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

Implementers may decide to install the SMTP agent on the same machine as the TaskCentre server with due consideration on loading. It is recommended that emails that are intended to trigger Tasks are filtered from the main mail server and forwarded to the SMTP virtual server running on the TaskCentre server machine. This requires that the Microsoft SMTP virtual server is running under IIS.

SQL Agent

The SQL agent is supported on:

• Microsoft SQL server 2000

• Microsoft SQL server 2005

• Microsoft SQL server 2008

Minimum .NET framework 2.0 Service Pack 1

The SQL agent(s) are normally distributed and reside on the data server(s). It communicates over the network using the IP protocol. Configuration of the OLE automation and extended stored procedures is essential to the operation of this agent. See product help files for details.

Roll Over & Resiliency Hardware

Two machines meeting the hardware specification for TaskCentre server are required

It is recommended that a straight through dedicated connection is setup using a crossover cable and additional network cards that are independent to the LAN. This means if the LAN fails the two TaskCentre machines are still able to communicate with each other.

TaskCentre server operating system requirements are the same for each machine as the definition above.

TaskCentre Database

The implementer has two choices for the TaskCentre back-end database. They may use the traditional proprietary back-end database or alternatively use Microsoft SQL Server, either standard, Enterprise or Express editions. It is recommended when using SQL that the database server is local and on the same machine as the TaskCentre server to optimise communication.

Client

The following indicates the supported operating systems and the minimum service pack required.

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows XP Professional

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Vista Business and Ultimate versions

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

Data Modeller

The data modeller is supported on:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Server minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional minimum SP4

• Microsoft Windows XP Professional

• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server minimum SP1

• Microsoft Vista Business and Ultimate versions

• Microsoft Windows 2008 Server

The data modeller is client side tool which is used to publish a model which is then accessible by the TaskCentre server.

Oracle Agent

• Java 1.4 must be installed when installing the Oracle Trigger Agent. All versions of Oracle 9i or 10g support the use of triggers on the following platforms:

- Linux – Linux kernels; 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6

- Linux – Debian, Red Hat and other distributions

- AIX

- FreeBSD

- HP – HP-UX (32 and 64 bit versions)

- SGI Irix

- DEC OSF1

- Sun Solaris 2, 8, 9 and 10 (32 and 64 bit sparc and x86 versions)

- Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003.

- Microsoft Windows 98 and ME (console mode)

- Apple Mac OS X

Run Crystal Report Tool

Crystal Reports versions 10, 11 and 12 are currently supported for use with the Run Crystal Report Tool.

TOBIT David

We currently support TOBIT David, V8 and V9 and their corresponding Faxware products

For a list of supported modems please check the TOBIT website

In order to send faxes through TOBIT using the TaskCentre product you must install the Faxware product onto the TaskCentre server and connect the product through a hardware modem using a com port on that same machine. It is also necessary to install the TOBIT client on any machines where you wish to configure Tasks using the TaskCentre Fax tool. This scenario works best if you dedicate a windows account to TaskCentre and use impersonation for any Fax based Tasks as TOBIT will only accept an authenticated/licensed account as authority to send faxes.

Virtualisation

It is now possible to run the TaskCentre server in a virtual environment (VMware or Virtual PC/Server virtualisation), meeting the prerequisites documented above for the operating system and hardware.
